Explosion rocks Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood, injuries minor
Gamblers were shocked and rushed out when a piece of firefighting equipment exploded loudly at Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood on Monday morning, sending debris and fiberglass flying below.
Several people sustained minor injuries but no one is believed to have been seriously injured, city officials and the Seminole Tribe said. Authorities say six people were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. In a minor blast, the four people suffered minor blows and were released immediately whereas two are still admitted to the hospital.
Another 20 refused to be transported but were treated in the parking lot for minor ailments such as coughs, bruises, or irritation of the eye.
“Fortunately no one was so close that he could be seriously injured,” said Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner, who added that one of the people admitted to the hospital was critically injured and not in good health.
The explosion near the Seminole Classic Casino is located at 4150 North State Road 7, which is half a mile south of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Bitner said firefighting equipment was being repaired in the operating room behind the wall of the casino. They had finished servicing the system, and when they reopened it, the line connected to the tank exploded.
Bitner said that The tank was dangerously connected with wires. It is actually a fire extinguisher that uses gas to get hold of the fire. About 100 people were at the casino just before 10 am at the time of the explosion, which witnesses said caused a major explosion.
“It was a huge explosion,” said witness Keith Richards, who played blackjack inside. “Like a transformer explosion. It was a very loud noise. You can see all these threads falling off the drywall. ”
People hurried out, witnesses said, and a video obtained by Local 10 News shows the installation and fiberglass in the casino times after the explosion. The center was opened in 1979, paying for itself as the nation’s first large bingo hall. It now offers slot machines, table games, and high bingo.
The 24-hour casino remains closed for cleaning and inspection Monday evening but opened its doors at 8:30 p.m.
While the workplace is not open to the public, it is more than just a casino. Hollywood Fire Rescue said the explosion overturned dry logs from the second floor to the first floor and that resulted in injuries to some casino guests.
Bitner estimated that the building housed 100 staff members and guests at the time. Seminole Classic Casino will now be temporarily closed to operate. More news about the casino will be revealed soon.
