Crown Perth Finances Behind Casino Watchdog

It is believed that the finances of Crown Perth’s finances had led to the approval by casino watchdog to install quicker electronic gaming machines. The decision has come to criticism as the casino watchdog has reportedly prioritized Crown Perth’s financials over the public interest when it finally agreed to make changes to the electronic gaming machines more closely like the pokies system.

In response to the allegation and statement made by the Perth Casino Royal Commission, the former Game and Wagering Commission (GCW) Chairperson Duncan Ord has said that when the Crown Perth had approached the casino watchdog to speed up the machines in 2019, the casino’s in Western Australia were financially struggling.

Adding to it, he clearly mentioned that Crown in its statement had said that it is bleeding out of money to stand a whole bunch of employees.

After the matter went into court, the counsel assisting the Royal Commission said that the casino desperately wants to increase the speed of play of the electronic gaming machines as it will help them to earn more money in a crunch financial period. The increased speed of the electronic gaming machines will make it similar to that of poker machines and would ensure the company making more money.

Increasing the speed of Electronic Gaming Machines (EMG) makes it more like a Poker machine. Poker Machines are banned in Western Australia since 1985 due to the stringent concern of their addictive nature.

The Court Ruling

The Hon. Court of Western Australia slammed Mr. Ord after he presented his first evidence. Ord was suspended with an indefinite leave and then soon he retired from the post.

The Judge also got hold of the friendship of Crown Perth’s owner and former member of the Games and Wagering Commission. The Judge ruled that there shall be a fine line between the professional and personal lines.

In response to the incident, it is much likely that Crown Perth will have to surely decrease the speed of its Electronic Gaming Machines. Due to the financial crunch, the court might not impose a penalty on the Crown.
