Betsson Granted Greek Online Casino And Sports Betting Licences1 min read

Operator Betsson Group has been granted licenses for online gaming and betting in Greece, by the Hellenic Gaming Commission.

In the coming weeks, Betsson.gr will offer sports betting, casino, live casino and virtual sports.

The brand will tailor its offering to Greek players, emphasising specific products such as Betsson 500k and Betsson+.

Pontus Lindwall, Betsson AB President, and CEO, said: “We are really pleased to receive these licences and to welcome Greece as Betsson’s 18th locally regulated market.

“As in other markets, our vision for Greece is to offer the best customer experience possible, and we have partnered with some great gaming suppliers and payment providers to augment our offering.

“The Greek gaming market has experienced significant growth over the past years and we see a lot of potentials.”

In its recent Q1 report, Betsson reported group revenue of SEK 1.59bn ($190.2m), a 12% increase from the previous year’s SEK 1.41bn.

Casino revenue also rose 16%, while sportsbook revenue went up 2%.

Betsson’s growth was not as sizeable as other Swedish firms, such as operator Kindred Group and suppliers Evolution and Kambi. However, this was also because Betsson enjoyed considerable growth in 2020, so its overall revenue volumes remain high.

Elsewhere, a subsidiary of Betsson AB, Betsson Perch Investments, acquired 35% of Strive Platform for a total of $6.5m.

Strive Platform is a new iGaming provider headed by ex-Kambi executive Damian Xuereb and Max Meltzer, who is due to leave Kambi this summer.
