Pre-requisites
The only pre-requisite for a game of Andar Bahar is the standard deck of 52 cards. Any number of players can play the game of Andar Bahar. The game will have the dealer who will be dealing the cards from the game card, to the card that wins. The dealer will also be responsible for handling the bank and giving the payouts to the winners. After placing the bet, the players need to watch the dealer deal the cards and wait until either of the players’ sides wins.
Gameplay Procedure
The majority of the gameplay is controlled by the dealer. Let’s see how the game works.
The dealer shuffles the deck of cards and picks one card at random from it. They then place the card near the player facing upwards. This card is called the ‘game card’ or the ‘face card’. It can be of either the black suit or the red suit. Note that in some other variations, this card may also be called the trump card or the joker.
Now, remember that the left side of the player is called ‘Andar’ and the right side of the player is called ‘Bahar’. The player has to bet on either side. The betting is that there will be a card similar to the face card or the game card, that will fall on either side.
If the game is played privately among friends/family, the minimum and the maximum bets can be decided mutually. If the game is played online or in the casino, the bet limits are decided by the casino.
The dealer now deals the remaining cards from the deck, face-up. They do it alternately between the Andar side and the Bahar side. Note that if the game card or the face card belonged to the black suit, the cards are dealt with starting from the Andar side. If the game card or the face card belonged to the red suit, the cards we’re dealt with a start from the Bahar side.
The dealing continues until a card appears on either the Andar side or the Bahar side which has a similar rank as the house card. If the player has bet on the side on which the card appeared, then they win. Else they lose.
Andar Bahar Rules – Payouts
There is a trick to payouts in Andar Bahar! The chances of betting on the side where the first card (the card after the game card) has been dealt are slightly higher. Consequently, the payout on this site will be 0.9 to 1 and the payout on the other side will be 1 to 1.
1.) Consider the scenario where the game card belongs to the black suit. If you bet INR 1000 on the Andar pile and win it, you will be paid INR 1900 in total. If you bet on the Bahar side and win it, you will be paid INR 2000. Recall that if the game card belongs to the black suit, the Andar side is dealt first.
2.) Consider another scenario where the game card belongs to the red suit. If you bet INR 1000 on the Bahar pile and win it, you will be paid INR 1900. If you bet on the Andar side and win it, you will be paid INR 2000. Recall that if the game card belongs to the red suit, the Bahar side is dealt first.
The chance of winning on the same card-pile is 51.5%, therefore the house edge here is 2.15% and the house edge of the second card is 3%.
Andar Bahar Rules – Variations
Depending on the online casino you play in, you might come across several Andar Bahar variants. Check their rules and payout terms before you play.
After First Card Dealing Variation
In this variation of Andar Bahar, regardless of what suit the game card belongs to, the cards are dealt first on the Andar side and then the Bahar side. The colour of the first dealt card (on the Andar side) determines the pile into which the next card will fall.
Dealing After First Two Cards
Some casinos allow players to bet on either of the sides after the first two cards are dealt. Of course, this is provided the first two cards do not match the rank of the game card. This increases the first pile chance of winning, slightly higher.
Number of Cards Betting
Some online casinos allow the players to bet on the number/range of cards in which the game card will show up. Depending on this, the payout will be decided.
Game Card Betting
Some casinos might also allow the players to bet on either the rank, suit, or colour of the house card or the game card before it is dealt. Depending on this, payouts are decided.
Conclusion
These are some of the rules of online Andar Bahar. Play the game responsibly and have fun!
